Japan’s controversial security bills, passed by the Lower House in July, was finally approved by the Upper House on September 18th,despite an outcry from thousands of demonstrators.
With the bills, Japan can use the right of collective self-defense, which means, Japan’s Self Defense Forces can use the military in overseas conflicts to support allies abroad, even if Japan itself isn’t under attack.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says, “We need the security legislation to protect Japanese people.
We must prevent war.”
