タイの秘島のグリーンカレー！

After a flight from Bangkok just shy of an hour, I arrived at a floating resort in Koh Samui. Then I took a high-speed ferry from Mae Nam beach to Koh Tao.

タイのバンコクから飛行機で１時間弱、タイ湾に浮かぶリゾート「サムイ島（Koh Samui）」に到着。さらにサムイ島のメナムビーチから、高速フェリーで「タオ島（Koh Tao）」に向かうまぐ。

There are only two ferries from Koh Samui to Koh Tao — one in the morning and one around noon –, and they make several stops at islands along the way so it takes just under two hours to get to the port in Mae Haad. It looks like you can also get there with a cheaper fare if you take a night bus from Bangkok and then hop on a boat that gets you to Koh Tao the following morning.

サムイからタオ島へのフェリーは朝と昼の２便あって、途中いくつかの島を経由しながらタオ島のメーハート港まで２時間弱の船旅。他にも、バンコクから夜行バスと船を乗り継いで翌朝タオ島に着くという、格安な行程もあるそう。

Koh Tao is a small, floating paradise to the east of the Malay Peninsula. In Thai, ”koh” means island and ”tao” means turtle, which makes this Turtle Island!

コタオ（タオ島）は、マレー半島の東に浮かぶ小さな楽園で、コは「島」、タオとは「亀」なので、“亀の島”と言う意味。

Compared to Koh Samui and Bangkok it’s not all that famous and it seems really remote, so there are relatively few tourists. However, it’s a really popular island for scuba diving and there are many nearby diving spots.

サムイ島やパンガン島に比べて知名度が少く、かなり田舎感のある島だから、観光客も比較的少ないまぐ。でも、スキューバダイビングが盛んな島で、ダイビングポイントも近く、ダイバーに人気の島。

One of the most famous places in Koh Tao is the Sairi Beach shopping area, but this time I stayed at the Chalok Baan Kao Beach at the Buddha View Dive Resort scuba diving school.

タオ島と言えば、繁華街のサイリー･ビーチが有名だけど、今回はスキューバー・ダイビングスクール「ブッダビューダイブリゾート」のあるチャロックバンカオビーチに滞在したよ。

After diving, I went over to the Chalok Harbour Restaurant attached to the Koh Tao Resort Hotel and indulged in some green curry (gang kiew wan)!

ダイビングしたあと、コタオリゾートホテル併設の「チャロックハーバーレストラン（Chalok Harbour Restaurant）」の海沿いのオープンテラスで、グリーンカレー（ゲーン・キァオ・ワーン）をいただくまぐ～！
